The Rocky Mountain Venom Hockey Academy is proud to announce the formation of its first-ever U13 Female Venom team, marking an exciting new chapter for the organization and the continued growth of elite girls’ hockey in Airdrie and across Alberta.
At the helm is Head Coach and Venom program founder, Sharina Filion, a respected figure in Alberta’s hockey community and a former record holder with the Mount Royal Cougars women’s program. As both founder and driving force behind Venom Hockey, Filion brings her trademark mix of discipline, energy, and mentorship to the next generation of female athletes, creating an environment where young players can learn, compete, and lead with confidence.
For the upcoming 2025-2026 season, the U13 Female Venom will compete in the Premier Hockey League’s U11 Major Division, giving these athletes valuable exposure to elite competition and the opportunity to measure their skills against some of the province’s best programs. Each player will benefit from Venom’s comprehensive development model, high-tempo practices, personalized feedback, and a strong emphasis on teamwork, respect, and accountability both on and off the ice.
The creation of the U13 Female Venom represents more than a roster expansion; it’s the first stone cast into a wide pond, one that’s certain to create ripples throughout the local hockey landscape. Those ripples will grow into waves of opportunity, paving the way for future female teams within the Venom program and establishing a lasting foundation for girls’ hockey in the region. Under Filion’s leadership, and with Venom’s signature “Fear the Bite, Respect the Sting” philosophy, the future of female hockey is not just bright, it’s unstoppable.
